TRAIL RUNNING RENFJÄLLET
My week in Åre continues, and today I decided to take on the challenge of running up Renfjället. This stunning mountain is a real favorite of mine, with its beautiful small lakes at the top. And as the cherry on top, you can enjoy a waffle at Vita Renen once you're there.
The first stretch takes you through the village of Edsåsdalen, but soon you find yourself surrounded by lush pine forest. From there, the path continues along a gravel road, flanked by wetlands, and I could spot a few lingonberries along the roadside.
It wasn’t long before I reached the treeline, and from there, the terrain became noticeably steeper. As I ascended, the landscape transformed into a rolling mountain terrain, scattered with small lakes. The ever-changing weather added to the beauty, casting dramatic shadows across the scenery. Before long, I reached the summit, where I was rewarded with a breathtaking view of Åreskutan, Mullfjället, and beyond.
On my way down, I saw that Vita Renen had opened, and I couldn’t resist treating myself to a waffle. I went for the “Greta,” topped with kale pesto, paired with a local beer that was perfect for cooling off in the heat. A year ago, I watched a couple running up and down the mountain, and I thought it looked completely absurd – I couldn’t imagine how they managed it. But this year, it was me running up the mountain, and perhaps raising a few eyebrows in the process. A great feeling!
The last stretch down is mostly on boardwalks, offering some stunning views along the way. All in all, I covered 12 kilometers and 550 meters of elevation today.
